The three-part film "Tokyo!" has been bought by Liberation Entertainment for North American distribution, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The cinematic 'triptych' features segments by Michel Gondry, Leos Carax and Joon-ho Bong.
Following in the city-themed footsteps of films like "Paris, Je'taime" and the forthcoming "New York, I Love You," "Tokyo!" examines the famous Japanese city through the perspectives of three different writers/directors.
Michel Gondry's segment, "Interior Design," follows a couple who is drifting apart. Korean director Joon-ho Bong, who I have to admit that I have never heard of, offers "Shaking Tokyo," about a recluse who discovers love during an earthquake. France's Carax ("Boy Meets Girl") finishes up the film with "Merde," about a man who performs "provocative" acts on the streets of Tokyo. Since 'merde' means 'shit,' I'm wondering if these 'acts' would appeal to John Water's fans.
Liberation plans to release "Tokyo!" in theatres later this year. And if you missed the movie clips we posted this morning from "Tokyo!," click here.
Normally I would include a link to the Hollywood Reporter story, to see why I haven't, read this.
