"Spiderman" director Sam Raimi has cast the two leads for his upcoming syndicated television series "Wizard's First Rule." According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Wizard's" will star two relative unknowns, Australia's Craig Horner and Broadway actress Bridget Regan.
"Wizard's First Rule" is based on the children's book by Terry Goodkind, part of his epic fantasy series "The Sword of Truth." The story follows a 'woodsman' named Richard Cypher (Horner) who transforms (by magic!) into a powerful leader. He joins with a 'mysterious' woman named Kahlan (Regan) to thwart a vicious tyrant.
Pretty thin, I'd say. The hour-long scripted series is being produced by ABC Studios and Disney and has been cleared for broadcast in most of the country. The synopsis has the feel of a "Xena" type syndicated show – you know, campy special effects and over the top acting, except it's from Disney so forget all of the excellent lesbian undertones.
Raimi has it in him to tell a good story – of course he also has it in him to destroy a good story. "Spiderman 3," I'm talking to you.
Normally I would include a link to The Hollywood Reporter story, to see why I haven't, read this.
