Disney sets up MONSTER ATTACK NETWORK

Disney has picked up the film rights to "Monster Attack Network" a graphic novel published by AiT/Planet Lar back in May of 2007. The studio snapped up "Monster" in the hopes that the adventure tale will spawn a major franchise (ie: sequels & stuff).

I am not going to pretend that I have read "Monster Attack Network," but after three minutes of intense online research here is what I can tell you: the book is set on the beautiful island of Lapuatu, which is inhabited by giant monsters. A crack team of 'adventurers' police the island – troubleshooting, and what not. The inevitable dramatic tension is supplied when a "shady industrialist" arrives on Monster Isle.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Monster Attack Network" has a "Men in Black" vibe. AICN, on the other hand, says that the book owes much to "The Venture Brothers" - what with the muscley-men, evil-doers and anatomically-unsteady babes roaming around Lapuatu. Unfortunately, Disney is sure to sanitize any whiff of "Venture" that the novel may possess and without it "Monster" ends up sounding like "Journey to the Center of the Earth" with a dash of "Jurassic Park" thrown in. What the hell, though. I've heard worse.
