Barry Levinson, director of such period classics as "Diner" and "Avalon," has agreed to direct "Train" for Lakeshore Entertainment. The film takes the Hollywood big shot away from the Baltimore-locales that made him famous, in a story that is described as an "LA Confidential" style noir-thriller. Allison Burnett (the woman who is also updating "Fame" for Lakeshore) is writing the screenplay.
According to an article in The Hollywood Reporter, "Train" centers on a white San Diego police sergeant who becomes entangled with a black golf caddy named Lionel 'Train' Walk. Train has first hand knowledge of a murder and works with the sergeant amidst racially-charged, Southern California landscape. The film also explores area politics during the 1950's time-frame in which it is set.
So, yeah, sounds just like "LA Confidential" meets "The Legend of Bagger Vance." I wonder if 'Train' will possess mystical powers and wisdom as well?
I am not including a link to The Hollywood Reporter story, to find out why read this.
