Columbia Is Taking James Patterson's MAXIMUM RIDE

Columbia Pictures has bought the rights to "Maximum Ride," a series of novels for 'young adults' by James Patterson. If you have never heard of these novels don't feel bad – I am not really up on the teen book market either. I freely admit I had never heard of "Twilight" until the movie hype started ramping up - so the fact that one "Maximum Ride" book, never mind five, even exists is news to me. So why the write-up? Because this is what the series is about, according to an article in Variety:
Six children who have been genetically altered to be 98% human and 2% bird and who have been bred to fly, escape a lab-rat existence and are then pursued by their scientist creators, who send a pack of part-human, part-wolves called 'Erasers' to hunt them down.
And they are going to turn that into a movie! I am just going to let you marinate in the marvelous stupidity of that synopsis for a moment.
Patterson, who is best known for turning his crappy novels into crappy movies ("Along Came a Spider") and even crappier TV shows ("Women's Murder Club") will not be scripting "Maximum Ride." That dubious honor falls to the creator of "My Super Ex-Girlfriend," Don Payne. Then again, I don't think Patterson actually writes anything anymore. The guy is 98% advertising jingle and 2% hair dye.
No link to the Variety story will be forthcoming so read this instead.
