Willem Dafoe, the "Spiderman" villain and all around intense character actor will have a starring role in the next film from Lars Von Trier. According to an article in Variety, Dafoe will star opposite Charlotte Gainsbourg ("21 Grams") in the Danish writer/director's "Antichrist."
"Antichrist" is the story of a married couple who retreat to an isolated cabin in the woods after the death of their child. Sounds depressing by Hollywood standards, but if you are familiar with the work of Lars Von Trier the plot feels positively uplifting.
Von Trier is perhaps best known for his beautiful and disturbing "Breaking the Waves," which helped launch the career of Emily Watson. He is also the man who brought us the light-hearted musical "Dancer in the Dark" and my personal favorite – "Dogville." Check them out, but only if your Paxil prescription is up to date.
As for Dafoe, the guy who famously portrayed Jesus in Martin Scorsese's still-controversial work "The Last Temptation of Christ," starring in a film called "Antichrist" is bound to attract some attention – you know, the kind of attention that elicits a lot of stupid questions from journalists at, say, a round table interview.
