Kat Dennings has just signed on to play the role of Kat in the new feature film “Defendor”, joining Woody Harrelson and Sandra Oh.  Harrelson will be playing Arthur, a regular man who believes he has a secret identity as the superhero Defendor.  Sandra Oh plays his psychiatrist and Kat Dennings plays a teenager living on the streets whom Arthur befriends.

The picture is being produced by Nicholas Tabarrok and it’s the feature film debut for writer/director Peter Stebbings.  Principal photography begins in November in Toronto.

While some may be thinking this is some high concept studio endeavor, the film is very independent – they don’t even have domestic distribution yet. What that means is, the film is probably going to be sold after it plays on the festival circuit. Of course, some studio may come in and buy it sight unseen, based on the script and the cast. But if they already have financing and they don’t need the cash, selling the film before a festival is like Russian roulette. You may make more by waiting, or you may not be able to sell the film at all.

But with the superhero genre very popular right now, it’ll be interesting to see what happens with the film.
