The Funny Kind of Cancer

Flashback to earlier this year when an alternate cut of Kyle Newman's "Fanboys" had bits of the internet up in arms. The reason? The Apatow crew had seemingly stepped in and removed a key element of the story: One of the main characters having cancer.
It's sounding like (via the Hollywood Reporter) that Seth Rogen may have heard of the recut debacle and thought quietly to himself: "Maybe people just love cancer."
Enter "I'm With Cancer", an autobiographical spec script by Will Reiser that Rogen will produce and act in.
Honestly, it sounds like a great idea -- based on Reiser's real-life fight -- as I think one of the most important things comedy can do is teach people how to laugh at something horrible. Of course, it's an easier public sell being a true story. Letting people know that you can laugh at yourself having cancer is very different from just laughing at strangers who actually have cancer. That, I've learned, is frowned upon and they'll actually personally escort you out of the hospital.
