Stallone’s EXPENDABLES Gets A Release Date
3/17/2009

When Sylvester Stallone first started talking up “The Expendables” it sounded kind of corny – a bunch of old mercenaries attempt to take down a ruthless South American dictator.  Throw in a bandana and a Vietnam back-story and what have you got?  “Rambo 5”.

But then Sly stated filling out his cast and I was suddenly interested.  Very interested.  Here are just a few of the “ugly tough” guys Stallone has signed for this film: Forest Whitaker, Jet Li, Steve Austin, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Eric Roberts, Dolph Lundgren, Jason Stathan and Randy Couture.  Oh, and the girl from “Angel” is in there too.  Now I defy you to tell me that you don’t want to see this movie.

But in case you are one of those people who feels that eight badasses is just one too many for an action movie you will want to make sure that you are nowhere near a movie theatre on April 23rd, 2010.  That is the date that Lionsgate has picked for the release of “The Expendables.”  Right now the film’s only competition is from the Chris Rock remake of “Death at a Funeral” but that could all change.  Personally, I wouldn’t want to be the film to take on “The Expendables” cast at the box office (or even 1/3 of that cast to be honest) but a lot can happen in 13 months.
