I don’t live in LA but I am of course familiar with the Chateau Marmont.  Here’s what I know from watching TMZ: the hotel is a Hollywood landmark.  It has bungalows and it is the destination of choice for troubled young stars like Jim Morrison and Britney Spears.  The A-listers seem to check into the Marmont when they are just sick to death of all the harassment from the paparazzi – which is funny because if there’s one place the press are sure to follow you it is to the threshold of the Chateau Marmont.  It’s not exactly a low-profile place to crash.

Here’s something else I know about The Chateau.  Sofia Coppola is setting her next film at the famed hotel.  The writer director of “Lost in Translation” and “Marie Antoinette” has been granted permission to film inside the Marmont for her next feature “Somewhere”.

According to Variety the film is a “dramedy’ which will star Stephen Dorff as a bad boy actor “stumbling through a life of excess at the Chateau Marmont.”  Dakota Fanning’s little sister Elle will play Dorff’s daughter who pops in to help him reassess his life choices.  

“Somewhere” is being released by Focus Features and will begin shooting in LA and Italy in late June or July.
