At this weekends junket for “P.S. I Love You,” Hilary Swank spoke about her next project, where she’ll be playing Amelia Earhart. While she didn’t tell us what part of Amelia’s life the movie would focus on, she did say they’ll begin filming this February. Unfortunately, the script isn’t finished yet, so unless the writers strike gets resolved the project won’t actually be getting in front of the camera.
If you don’t know who Amelia Earhart is… I strongly suggest doing some research. She was a pioneer in the aviation industry back in the 1920’s and 30’s, and was one of the most famous people in America when she disappeared. Although her story and famous disappearance has been told many times, I’m sure modern audiences will be fascinated by her life’s story. I’m also confident that Hilary will bring great care in playing such an iconic role. And if you look at the pictures…she does have some physical resemblance.
Anyway, here’s what Hilary said about the project. If you’d like to listen to the audio you can click here for the MP3. Just know it’s the entire interview and not just the select quotes.
Question: I think you’re scheduled to play Amelia Earhart. Is that still happening?
Hilary Swank: Yeah, it's happening. I start doing my research in January.
Q: So that’s your next project?
Hilary Swank: Yeah, it’s my next project.
Q: So are you looking forward to playing…

Hilary Swank: Very much. What a wonderful woman, what an inspiration. A pioneer, too.
Q: Is that script locked? Can you film that with the strike currently going on?
Hilary Swank: The film's — you know — almost done, but with the hopes that… we're not filming that till late February, so while I'm doing my preparation and breaking down the script — sorry, not breaking down the script — when I'm doing my preparations in breaking down Amelia, who she was and doing all that research, hopefully the writers get what they need and we can start working on that. It's very minor, minor work that needs to be done on the script.
Q: Does it offer a solution to the mystery?
Hilary Swank: No. It's not really about — there are so many things that are left unsaid about where she is, and a lot of people have a lot of different ideas, but it's not really exploring that in the movie.
