Nicole Kidman and Charlize Theron received the same mixed brand of positive and negative criticism for their Oscar-winning "ugly makeup" for "The Hours" and "Monster", respectively. Not to say that they didn't give great performances, but sometimes turns like that feel a bit like stunt-casting.
So, hearing via Hollywood Reporter that the two actresses are uniting for Oscar-bait "The Danish Girl" and that Kidman will play the world's first post-op transsexual may raise a few critical eyebrows.
Anand Tucker (of "Shopgirl" fame) will direct the film which is based on a fictionalized version of the true story, published as novel by David Ebershoff.
The true story deals with two married artists who, after the husband models in the place of a female model, is convinced by his wife to take the operation.
The title comes from the husband's first name, Dan who, even after switching sexes, was still said to be rather Dan-ish.
Not really. It takes place in Denmark.
