The cast for the Sci-Fi Channel's pilot prequel to "Battlestar Galactica" is filling out fast. Last Wednesday Esai Morales signed on to play Joseph Adama, father of one William Adama, and hell – you know who he is. Now claiming the role of Daniel Graystone, the ethical counterpoint to Adama Senior, is Eric Stoltz.
Called "television's first science fiction family saga; "Caprica" was conceived as a two-hour movie that would serve to ease audiences out of "Battlestar" and into the storyline of a brand new series – ratings contingent, naturally. The story takes place about 50 years before the action in "BG" and centers on the conflicts between two powerful families: the Adamas and the Graystones. Oh yeah, and there are these new things called Cylons – but we're getting ahead of ourselves.
Already cast as Eric Stoltz's Missus is Paula Malcomson (she palyed Trixie on "Deadwood") while Zoe Graystone, the teen that has her own robot pal made in her likeness, will be played by someone named Alessandra Torresani. I looked up her bio and found zilch – that's because she has done most of her work (an episode each of "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" and "Bones") as Alessandra Toreson. Huh – I wonder what spurred her to make such an irrelevant name change.
"Caprica" creator/producer Ronald D Moore has to be happy with the way his cast is shaping up. Esai Morales has been great on "Jericho" and "NYPD Blue" and wooing Eric Stoltz into a committed television relationship is a real coup for a basic cable network. You know – he's a serious actor, "Anaconda" not withstanding.
Imagine Esai Morales giving birth to Edward James Olmos here.
