The first poster for the R-rated comedy Hot Tub Time Machine has been released and it’s after the jump. Starring John Cusack, Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson and Clark Duke, based on the trailers, HTTM looks like it could be a really funny comedy. Here’s the synopsis:
A group of best friends have become bored with their adult lives: Adam has been dumped by his girlfriend; Lou is a party guy who can’t find the party; Nick’s wife controls his every move; and video game-obsessed Jacob won’t leave his basement. After a crazy night of drinking in a ski resort hot tub, the men wake up, heads pounding, in the year 1986. This is their chance to kick some past and change their futures - one will find a new love life, one will learn to stand up for himself with the ladies, one will find his mojo, and one will make sure he still exists!
Look for a lot more on this movie soon:

The trailer for Hot Tub Time Machine, starring John Cusack, Craig Robinson, Rob Corddry, and Clark Duke, just came online and boy is it awful. I’m trying to take solace in Steve’s report on the red-band trailer he saw at AFM because this green-band version is the kind of that could kill any interest in the movie. The intro is terrible, the jokes are unfunny (the one about inventing a combination of Twitter and Viagra was painful), and the only glimmer of hope was Craig Robinson being his typical amazing self.
My hope is that the film is so raunchy that they just can’t do a good green-band trailer (although that didn’t stop The Hangover) and a red-band trailer will rekindle the interest that this trailer will most likely kill.
If you’re now curious to see this train wreck of advertising (along with a brief synopsis), hit the jump. Hot Tub Time Machine hits theaters on March 19, 2010.

Lloyd Dobler. This name resonates for those who love Say Anything because if you make a list of great cinematic romantic characters, Lloyd Dobler is one of the few truly resonant male characters in the genre. Soulful, but not weak, Dobler is an outsider smart enough to know what he doesn’t want. Cementing the appeal of John Cusack for generations, even with some classic characters in Better off Dead and the series of comedies that followed, Cusack was a light comic actor. Here he takes it to the next level. My review of Say Anything after the jump.

If you ask any interviewer, they’ll tell you the same thing: some people are easy to interview, and some are John Cusack. While I love Cusack’s work, I’ve interviewed him a few times and none of them are what I consider great interviews. I don’t know his deal, but every person I spoke to at the 2012 press junket had the same thing happen: we walked in ready to talk, and we walked out wondering if anything was usable. Thankfully, I got him to answer a few of my questions, but compared to some of the other interviews I did for this movie, this didn’t turn out as well as I hoped.
Saying that, if you’re a fan of John Cusack, I think it’s still worth watching. He talks about all the 2012 stuff and does he believe in any of it, making the movie, working in Vancouver, and a bit on Hot Tub Time Machine. Finally, a big thank you to our partners at Omelete for making this interview happen. Take a look after the jump:

Last month, I was lucky enough to be invited to Jackson Hole, Wyoming to cover the press junket for Roland Emmerich’s upcoming disaster flick 2012, which opens this Friday. Some people reading this may be thinking, “Lucky to go to Wyoming? Har har!” These people (in addition to laughing oddly) have never been to Jackson Hole, Wyoming because it is an absolutely gorgeous landscape. There are forests, grassland, and mountains all grouped together and it provides a feeling of complete tranquility to the area. It’s isolated but when you stop to think about how most of us are bombarded on a daily basis by technology and communications that isolation turns into an oasis.
I also got to see Roland Emmerich destroy the world real good and then talk about it with Emmerich and stars John Cusack, Amanda Peet, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Hit the jump for what they had to say about the Earth crumbling like an old Chips Ahoy along with my tale of adventure in Big Sky country. It involves bears.
AFM* fun continues with the first images and full synopses for All Good Things starring Ryan Gosling and Kirsten Dunst, Pirhana 3D starring Elisabeth Shue and Richard Dreyfuss, Shanghai starring John Cusack and Ken Watanbe, and The Fighter starring Christian Bale, Mark Wahlberg, and Amy Adams. These are all films that should be on your radar because there’s a good chance that these films will be getting some major marketing when they hit theaters.
I write and read about films every day and with the exception of The Fighter, these films weren’t really on my radar. After reading the synopses and seeing some shots from these movies, I’ll definitely be on the lookout for further news about them. Hit the jump to check out debut photos and what you need to know about these upcoming flicks.

Earlier today, I was at the American Film Market in Santa Monica. If you’re not familiar with AFM, it’s the place where film buyers from around the world come once a year to buy movies and also pre-buy films in development. Simply put, this is where a lot of money changes hands in the film industry and it’s where many decisions about what you and I get to see are made. In an effort to try and raise a film’s profile or attract film buyers, many of the studios print up promo art for movies in development or nearing completion. Almost none of the artwork will ever see the light of day outside of AFM, but if you’re a film junkie like me, then getting to see all this stuff is Christmas. After the jump you can take a look at the first grouping of random promo posters and artwork from today. You can also see the first images from Rogues Gallery and The Experiment.
Now for the other bit of news: When I was walking around, I got to see even more awesome stuff. The first was the AFM only red band trailer for Hot Tub Time Machine! To say it looked painfully hilarious would be a huge understatement. The other thing I saw was a promo poster for Robert Rodriguez’s Machete featuring Lindsay Lohan in a nun’s outfit while being very friendly to a firearm. Yahoo Movies has released a new featurette from Roland Emmerich’s “2012″ called “How They Made the Giant Waves”. As you can guess from the title, it focuses on the special effects and how they created the huge wave that’s featured in the trailer. While the video is cool if you’re into visual effects, my favorite part is when the various people involved start talking about the script and being serious. Because, clearly, the script is the most important part of a Roland Emmerich movie. While people are clearly mixed on “2012″, I’m looking forward to shutting my brain off at the door, grabbing a popcorn, and having some fun watching the world explode. Check out the clip after the jump.

MTV aired a program tonight called “Behind the Screen” and they showed off new clips from “Jennifer’s Body”, “Ninja Assassin”, “2012″ and some behind the scenes footage from “Clash of the Titans”. Thanks to the magic of embedding, you can see the clips after the jump. Take a look:

Just a few hours ago I was at Sony Studios in Culver City catching a screening. What’s great about watching movies on a studio lot is you never know what you’ll see. I’ve walked by numerous actors walking to set in costume, and I’ve also seen director’s talking to executives about upcoming projects. It’s always an interesting place to be.
The other cool thing about being on a studio lot is they sometimes have promotional posters and theatrical displays before they’ve been seen in a movie theater or online. So when I was checking into tonight’s screening, I noticed two huge “2012″ posters that I’d never seen anywhere. And sure enough, after I got home and looked around the web, they weren’t online. So after the jump take a look at some new posters via my camera phone.

Sony International has released a new “2012″ trailer in Japan and I’ve put it after the jump. If you went to this year’s Comic-Con, you’ll notice a lot of what we were shown in the trailer. But if you didn’t go, you’re going to see what millions of dollars money buys you in special effects, as this film is loaded with destruction.
While many people give director Roland Emmerich a lot of shit for the movies he makes (myself included), for some reason I’m looking forward to “2012″. Since this is his third time blowing up our planet, I’d like to think he’s finally figured out how to do it right. Watch the trailer after the jump:
I guess the film’s called “2012″ because that’s when the Mayans predicted that the world would end (and yet they didn’t see the end of their own civilization coming; whoops) but a much better title judging from the trailer [via Yahoo! Movies] would be “Set Piece: The Movie!” Does this movie have characters? Do people actually talk to each other? I’m starting to think that director Roland Emmerich just sits in front of his computer playing “Sim City”, hits one of the “Disaster” buttons, and says “That would be a great movie!” I was left dumbstruck by this trailer because while I’m not excited for the film, I’m amazed that Emmerich has apparently come one step closer to his personal cinematic zenith of making movies where everything gets destroyed.
Also, it looks like the Mayans were right on with their prediction that the USS John Kennedy would fall on top of the White House. We should have listened to those guys.
Check out the trailer after the jump. “2012″ falls on to theatres on November 13th.
