Less than a month after its release, “Zombieland” has already become popular enough to have its own non-studio produced t-shirt. Having “Rule #2: The Double-Tap” emblazoned across your chest is not only a way to show your love for “Zombieland”, but it’s an invaluable advice for surviving a zombie apocalypse. While I don’t know if we can expect a “Rule #1: Cardio” jogging suit or a “Rule #14: Don’t Be a Hero” boxers, this shirt is worth picking up.
Hit the jump for a full image of the t-shirt along with pricing info and a link to where you can purchase it.

It would be an understatement to call “Zombieland” the breakout hit of 2009. The film has racked up critical acclaim and box office numbers to match. It’s already made almost three times its budget and at a time when zombie films have become a little tiresome, it’s nice to see there’s still some life left in the genre.
Four international posters for the film landed online today and I hate them. Not because they look cool or they’re funny but because they’re inaccurate. Rules #8 and #21 are never mentioned in the film so they’re spurious claims at best. Also, “Don’t Be a Hero” is Rule #14. Sure, I don’t know how to visualize the “double-tap” but that doesn’t mean you just make up the rules. I seriously doubt that the person who made these would survive a zombie apocalypse. You can see these posters after the jump but make sure you see “Zombieland” so you understand the rules and survive the zombpocalypse.

Opening tomorrow is the horror/thriller “The Stepfather”. The film is about Penn Badgley’s (”Gossip Girl”) character returning home from military school and finding his mother living with a new boyfriend. As the two men get to know one another, Badgley’s character grows suspicious. As you might imagine, action ensues. Anyway, I got to speak with Amber Heard earlier today as she plays the Penn Badgley’s girlfriend in the movie. While readers of Collider know I prefer doing video interviews, Amber was only available for phoners, so that’s how this was done.
During our short conversation, Heard talked about making “The Stepfather”, doing a cameo in “Zombieland” (she played the hot neighbor in the beginning of the film), and she also talked about playing Johnny Depp’s girlfriend in next year’s “The Rum Dairy”. Our conversation after the jump:

This is why Vince Vaughn is known as box office gold. A typical Vaughn comedy has a reasonable price tag and reaps big returns… if not always big laughs. The actor made the new bosses over at Universal very happy on Friday as “Couples Retreat” opened to over $12.3 million from 3,000 screens. It didn’t hurt that the PG-13 comedy was the only wide release of the week, of course. Meanwhile, Sony is still feeling the love with “Zombieland” at number two and their 3D toon-that-could, “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs”, losing little monetary momentum at number three. But the real momentum this week belongs to Paramount. The studio’s indie horror pick-up “Paranormal Activity” moved from midnight-only screenings in a handful of cities to 159 venues (at all hours) on Friday. With marketing being handled mainly by fans and social networkers, the studio can just sit back and count the cash as it rolls in. Already the $11,000 pic has earned $3.7 million total. Check back tomorrow to see exactly how much word-of-mouth will be worth this time.

“Zombieland” is already a financial hit for Sony. After opening up a big lead on Friday, Ruben Fleischer’s $24 million directorial debut continued to dominate a crowded weekend session, closing Sunday with an estimated $25 million from 3,036 engagements. And because, lately, the box office has room for only one hit per weekend, new releases like Drew Barrymore’s “Whip It” suffered by comparison.
| Title | Weekend | Total | |
| 1 | Zombieland | $25,000,000 | $25,000,000 |
| 2 | Cloudy w/a Chance | $16,700,000 | $82,392,000 |
| 3 | Toy Story 1 & 2 | $12,500,000 | $12,500,000 |
| 4 | The Invention of Lying | $7,350,000 | $7,350,000 |
| 5 | Surrogates | $7,344,000 | $26,387,000 |
| 6 | Whip It | $4,850,000 | $4,850,000 |
| 7 | Capitalism: A Love Story | $4,850,000 | $5,252,000 |
| 8 | Fame | $4,754,000 | $16,634,000 |
| 9 | The Informant! | $3,800,000 | $26,580,000 |
| 10 | Love Happens | $2,777,000 | $18,910,000 |

October is off to a strong start for at least one studio. Sony saw “Zombieland” take number one on Friday with a $9.4 million debut in 3,036 theatres. The horror/comedy hybrid knocked another Sony release, “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs”, into second place after two weeks at number one. In other 3D news, the debut of Pixar’s “Toy Story 1 & 2″ was not far behind “Meatballs” with $3.2 million. Disney’s double bill should take a bite out of Sony’s weekend-matinee monopoly but, playing in only 1,745 locations, it may be hard for the retooled toys to catch up. Sony was not the only studio that had something to smile about on Friday. Warner Brothers’ new comedy “The Invention of Lying” surprised even the studio by coming in fourth with a $2.5 million debut in 1,707 theatres. Fox Searchlight’s “Whip It”, playing in the same number of venues, was also a surprise. The Drew Barrymore/Ellen Page vehicle fell short of the top five despite those ’sneak peaks’ the studio hosted last Saturday. Check back tomorrow for full weekend box office results.
| Title | Friday | Total | |
| 1 | Zombieland | $9,400,000 | $9.4 |
| 2 | Cloudy w/a Chance | $3,700,000 | $69.4 |
| 3 | Toy Story 1 & 2 | $3,200,000 | $3.2 |
| 4 | Invention of Lying | $2,500,000 | $2.5 |
| 5 | Surrogates | $2,200,000 | $21.2 |

Zombie business isn’t booming like it was a few years ago now that vampires have moved in and taken over their cinematic turf but zombies are in no way dead (which is kind of their thing) as they’ve migrated successfully to video games where we finally have the technology to kill them as brutally and as gleefully as possible. “Zombieland” is that video game back to the big screen and it leaves tense, existential survival behind in favor of joyous, violent survival.

Opening this Friday is director Ruben Fleischer’s feature debut “Zombieland”. Since I’ve been covering the film extensively here on Collider, you should be very familiar with the movie. But if you missed our previous coverage…here’s my video blog about being on the set in Atlanta, and here’s on set interviews with director Ruben Fleischer, Emma Stone, Jesse Eisenberg and Woody Harrelson. Anyway, a few days ago they held a press day on the Santa Monica pier and I was able to talk with Emma Stone about making the movie and a lot more. Take a look after the jump:

Anyway, a few days ago they held a press day on the Santa Monica pier and I was able to talk with Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenberg. During the interview they talked about their reaction to first reading the script, Twinkies, the way Woody would change the way he delivered his lines on every take, and Jesse Eisenberg talked about David Fincher’s next movie “The Social Network”. Now that I’ve finally seen the finished film, I’m happy to report I laughed my ass off in the theater and I can definitely recommend the movie. Also, the film has one of the best cameos I’ve seen and if you see “Zombieland” with an audience, you’re in for a great time. Anyway, to get you ready for the movie, we’ve been given 5 clips and 7 TV spots. Check them out after the jump:

Sony Pictures has released a new international trailer for “Zombieland,” the Ruben Fleischer directed comedy/horror that hits theaters this October. This one’s a little longer than the original theatrical trailer, so you’ll get to see a few more zombies gored and a little more of the side characters played by Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin. And more importantly, this one’s narrated by star Jesse Eisenberg himself, so it feels a little less like an excerpt from “Pushing Daisies.” Catch the new trailer after the jump.

There are films at Comic-Con that you know will receive a fantastic reception unless they’re strangely hell-bent on disappointing everyone in the room. If you thought the audience needed to be won over by “Iron Man 2″, “Sherlock Holmes”, “Alice in Wonderland” or any of the films at that level, you probably don’t follow movies. Not that I mind, but to those folks I ask: why are you at this site again?
But there also films like “Zombieland” that are going to get some fantastic word-of-mouth off their time in Hall H and about 6,000 people are going to tell their friends that this may be another zombie movie, but it’s still worth your time. MySpace just threw the red-band trailer online and it’s an abbreviated version of what we saw at Comic-Con and will make you, dear reader, also tell your friends to see this movie. Hit the jump to fall in love with zombie-killing all over again.

Because they’re Entertainment Weekly and you’re not, the magazine has a bunch of new images to show off as a precursor to next week’s San Diego Comic-Con. While nothing they have will blow you away (although there is a new shot from Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland” that’s absolutely stunning), it’s worth checking out and will probably further your maddening confusion about which panels to attend.

Sony just released what I’m assuming is the teaser poster for their upcoming horror-comedy flick “Zombieland”. I’m assuming it’s the teaser since it doesn’t feature stars Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin. Of course, I would love it if this is the only poster we got because it looks great and we don’t have to worry about floating heads whether they be human or zombie. But we don’t live in that world and unless you’re showcasing a major franchise or it’s an animated film, you got to have the stars on the one-sheet. So just enjoy this delightful poster for now and be sure to check out Steve’s video blog about his visit to the set.
Hit the jump to see the poster. “Zombieland” hits theatres on October 9th.

If you spent all of Friday in Hall H, then prepare to spend all day in Ballroom 20 on Saturday because, like it or not, Saturday is essentially TV Day at Comic-Con. Yes, there’s definitely some stuff going down in Hall H that’s worth your time like “Iron Man 2″, Mike Judge’s “Extract”, and “Zombieland”. However, all the major TV stuff (with a few exceptions) is going down in Ballroom 20 including “Chuck”, “Futurama”, “Family Guy”, “The Cleveland Show”, “V”, and “Fringe”.
Oh, and for all of you who like stuff that is complete and utter shit, Saturday also features panels for “True Blood”, “Heroes”, and “The Boondock Saints II”. If there was a panel on punching off your genitals, I would say that would be preferable to any of those. But it your time and your schedule and I’m sure all those rooms will be packed. They’ll just be packed with people I hate because they like things I don’t. That’s how it works.
Hit the jump to check out the full schedule for Saturday where I’ve highlighted events that I think may be popular (even where if I think that popularity is totally undeserved). And if you missed it, click here for Friday and click here for Thursday.

If the chemistry between Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenberg in director Ruben Fleischer’s “Zombieland” is anything like what I witnessed on set back in March, the movie is going to be very funny. That’s because unlike some sets where everything is serious between takes, Woody and Jesse were laughing and improvising almost the entire time we were there. I don’t think Woody said the same line of dialogue on any two takes as he was constantly one upping himself and making people laugh. It was a lot of fun to watch.
So you may be asking what’s “Zombieland”. It’s a horror/comedy by director Ruben Fleischer and it takes place in a world overrun by zombies. The film stars Jesse and Woody and they play a big wuss and an AK-toting, zombie-slaying’ bad ass whose single determination is to get the last Twinkie on earth. I think you know who plays which part.
Anyway, after the jump is the interview I participated in with the two stars on set. They talked about improvising, filming, the amusement park sequence, zombie killing, and a lot more. Take a look:
