TROPIC THUNDER Red-Band Trailer

Looking at this new red-band trailer for "Tropic Thunder", I find myself believing what I had come to think was impossible: Ben Stiller will be in a funny film again.  The best part of this new trailer is his parody film of his big-action-star character trying to be in a schmaltzy drama called "Simple Jack".  It becomes even funnier when you see the not-too-subtle dig at Eddie Murphy's recent style of "comedy".

Of course, everyone's attention will probably still be drawn to Downey playing a conceited actor who has dyed his skin so he can play an African-American, but does anyone really doubt Downey's brilliance at this point?  If so, please leave.

As far as trailers go, this is what it's all about: succinctly sum up the plot (a frustrated director drops a bunch of actors into a real war but they all think they're making a movie) and show some great comedy.

The fact that it's red-band makes it a little better, but you don't get the sense that this will be hard to market because it can't show dirty jokes.  It's going to be hard to market because Ben Stiller has killed his comedy rep.  The best they can do is remind people that this is the first film he's directed since "Zoolander" and everybody loves "Zoolander" (it's one of those films that keeps getting better on repeat viewings).

Check out the red-band trailer below and remember that Shit Blows Up on August 15th. For HD click here.
