Earlier today, Apple Corps Ltd., Harmonix and MTV Games announced they’re all working together on a new video game and it’ll feature the music of The Beatles.

Now before getting excited that The Beatles are coming to Rock Band…they’re not. All this announcement said was a game is coming…and the music of The Beatles is in it. The release date is sometime in 2009.

While they didn’t exactly say what the game is…I’d imagine it’s a version of Rock Band that will be slightly different than the original game and the music of The Beatles will be the only songs you can play.

According to the press release:

“The game will be an unprecedented, experiential progression through and celebration of the music and artistry of The Beatles. The game was creatively conceived with input from Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, along with Yoko Ono Lennon and Olivia Harrison, and enjoys their full blessing. In addition, Giles Martin, co-producer of The Beatles innovative LOVE project, will provide his expertise and serve as Music Producer for this groundbreaking Beatles project.”

What this press release tells me is The Beatles got paid some serious $$$.

It also tells me they’re going to do something cool with this game, as everyone loves The Beatles and there is no way this won’t be something worth playing. Obviously as I get more info I’ll post updates.
